Packed, out for delivery
Priya's order is packed. The steps across the top show where it is.
The tour, written down
Dropping off a parcel and taking payment at the door
Open the order from the To deliver list. The bar across the top shows it is packed. Hand over the parcel, take the cash, tick Cash received with the total and tap Mark delivered. The same screen shows the buyer with WhatsApp and Call, what she ordered, the delivery charge, the total and whether payment is still to collect.
What does this tour show?
It shows a local drop-off at the end of the working day. Amira, a sample seller of beauty products, delivers small orders to nearby buyers herself. At five o'clock she drops a parcel two streets away for a buyer called Priya, who pays in cash on the doorstep. On the walk back, Amira wants that payment and that delivery on record before she forgets which parcel was which.
The tour has three steps on a single order screen: the order and its steps, Cash received with Mark delivered, and the buyer, the goods and the money.
Why bother recording a doorstep payment?
Because a few pounds in a coat pocket is the easiest money to lose track of. A seller who drops three parcels a week will remember them. One who drops fifteen will not, and at the end of the month her sales and her cash will not agree. When each drop-off ends with the cash ticked on the order, the list of delivered orders becomes a reliable record of who paid, how much and when. It also protects her if a buyer later says she never received a parcel.
Step by step
-
Open the order before you knock. At 17:00, outside Priya's door, Amira opens the order from the To deliver row on Home. The top of the screen shows Priya's name, the order number SO-0148, "placed yesterday" and the total, £18.20.
-
Check the steps across the top. Four short bars read New, Confirmed, Packed and Delivered. New and Confirmed have ticks; Packed is in bold. The order is exactly where it should be: packed and on the doorstep.
-
Check what is in the parcel. Further down, What they ordered lists 2 × Lip balm trio Set of 3 at £15. Underneath: Products £15, Delivery £3.20, Total £18.20. Payment at the bottom says Cash to collect.
-
Hand over and take the cash. Priya pays £18.20 in cash. Amira counts it on the doorstep, while Priya is still there, so any difference is sorted out face to face.
-
Tick Cash received. In the shaded panel below the steps, a line reads "Cash received: £18.20" with a tick box. Amira ticks it. The cash is now recorded on the order itself.
-
Tap Mark delivered. The large button under the tick is Mark delivered. She taps it. The order moves to Delivered and drops off the To deliver row on Home.
-
Use the buyer row if you need it. The buyer panel shows Priya's name and area with WhatsApp and Call buttons. Had nobody answered, Amira would have called from here before leaving, rather than walking home with the parcel.
-
Walk home with nothing to remember. Parcel delivered, cash recorded, buyer contactable. If Priya messages tomorrow to say thank you, Amira can open the same order and see exactly what she bought.
Priya's order, line by line
| Part of the screen | What it shows (sample) | What Amira checks |
|---|---|---|
| Header | Priya, SO-0148, £18.20 | Right buyer, right total |
| Steps | Packed is current | Order is ready to hand over |
| What they ordered | 2 × Lip balm trio, £15 | Parcel contents match |
| Delivery | £3.20 | Charge was applied |
| Payment | Cash to collect | Cash is due at the door |
| Cash received | £18.20, ticked | Money is on record |
| Mark delivered | Order finished | Off the To deliver list |
Priya's order of £15 is below Amira's free-delivery amount of £30, so the £3.20 charge applies. One more lip balm set would not have changed that; two large candles would.
What changes after Mark delivered?
Three things, all without any extra tapping. On Home, the To deliver count drops by one, so tomorrow morning's list is shorter. On the Orders screen, the order moves to the Delivered tab and adds to its count, which gives Amira a running sense of how many parcels went out this week. And on the order itself, the cash stays ticked as received, so if she ever needs to check whether Priya paid, the answer is on the record rather than in her memory.
Tips for local drop-offs
- Open the order before you knock. You arrive knowing the total and the contents, which makes the doorstep quicker.
- Carry a little change. Totals like £18.20 rarely arrive as exact cash.
- Tick the cash on the spot. The walk home is where amounts get muddled.
- Group drop-offs by area. Two parcels in the same road are one trip; spread over the week they are two.
- If you deliver in the evening, message the buyer before you set off. A two-line WhatsApp from the order saves a wasted walk.
Common mistakes
Marking delivered before taking payment. If the buyer asks to pay later, the order looks finished while the money is still outstanding. Leave Cash received unticked until it is paid.
Mixing transfer and cash. A buyer who pays by bank transfer on the doorstep has not paid cash. Record it as a transfer with a slip, not as cash received.
Leaving orders at Packed after delivery. The To deliver row keeps growing and stops meaning anything.
Keeping doorstep cash with personal money. It is much easier to match your takings with your delivered orders when the shop's cash is kept apart.
What should you do next?
That leaves the evening. In the next tour, Amira sets her prices for the supplier range she asked to join at lunchtime, a follower orders her candle and the supplier's body butter together, and she sees what she has earned on the resold items.
The cash flow guide explains why money collected on doorsteps should be banked and matched regularly. The end-of-day cash-up guide gives a simple counting routine you can borrow for a weekly check of cash received against delivered orders.
How EasyTaskr helps
A Share & Sell order shows its steps from New to Delivered. For cash on delivery, Cash received records the money before Mark delivered closes the order, and the buyer's WhatsApp and Call buttons sit on the same screen with what she ordered, the delivery charge and the total.
Questions people ask
Do I need to mark hand-delivered orders as delivered?
Yes. Marking an order delivered moves it off your To deliver list and, for cash on delivery, records that the money was collected. Without it, the order keeps showing as waiting.
What if the buyer pays by bank transfer at the door instead of cash?
Leave Cash received unticked, because no cash changed hands. Check in your banking app that the transfer has arrived before you mark the order delivered.
Can I call the buyer if I cannot find the address?
Yes. The order screen has Call and WhatsApp buttons next to the buyer's name, so you can ring or message without searching your contacts.
Does Share & Sell print delivery labels or track parcels?
No. It records the order's steps and the payment. Courier labels and tracking numbers are not part of it, so for posted parcels you use your courier's own service.
Why does the payment say Cash to collect?
Because the order was placed as cash on delivery and the cash has not been ticked as received. It changes once you tick Cash received.
